A Romantic, Colorful Guest Book

The first guest book we made (besides our own) was for my brother. Alan and Jessica (or maybe mostly Jessica!) picked quotes from The Little Prince, The Avett Brothers, and How I Met Your Mother for us to include in the book. They also had a few requests for drawings such as the fox, yellow umbrella, and blue french horn), and the rest we were able to be more creative with.

After the wedding, Alan and Jessica wanted their vows written out on one of the pages that hadn’t been used for signatures. You can see it at the bottom of this post!

Because Alan and Jessica’s book had 10 pages and they had chosen 9 quotes, we had the idea to designate the first page to the wedding party.

I really like the idea of a cover page, celebrating the friends and family that are standing with you on the big day.

How I Met Your Mother:

I think it was Kellan who had the idea to include the silhouettes. It fit so perfectly with the quote and was a fun way to capture some of Alan and Jessica’s personality and style.

We were given strict instructions to include a blue french horn and yellow umbrella from the TV series! I love the intricateness of the horn and the way the quote floats out of the instrument and across the page.

The Little Prince:

We used watercolor on the drawings from The Little Prince to mimic the book’s illustrations, although the fox in the book looks a little different from Kellan’s version! The lesson-filled children’s book is full of fantastic quotes, including these two.

A translation of the quote in French: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.

The Avett Brothers:

The Avett brothers are a favorite band of both Alan and Jessica. They chose four lyrics to be included in the book, giving us the freedom to chose what drawing to pair with each.

For the first quote, we wanted to convey the feeling of safety and security. An intimate moment on the couch seemed like the perfect way to show that comfort and love.

We knew we wanted to include Deer Mountain, where Alan proposed to Jessica on a hike, in the book. In the end, it seemed like the perfect illustration to go along with this line about committing to each other.

A beautiful tribute to the life Alan and Jessica will build together over the years. Kellan drew a banjo as a nod to the folk band, and I fit the lyric around the instrument.

Realizing that we had plenty of lines already in the book, we made a full last page with the final Avett Brothers quote and a pencil sketch of a rose. It was the perfect way to close out the book and their wedding as they headed into marriage.

See how their whole book came together:

With a little imagination…

Unsigned Guest Book pages don’t have to sit empty in your book! I wrote out Alan and Jessica’s vows on this page that had not been used at their wedding.
