A Lyric-Filled Polaroid Guest Book

Sarah and Keenan were the first friends we made after moving to Chicago. Sarah and Kellan were starting in the same Masters program at Chicago and we all got dinner together after the first night of Orientation. The four of us quickly bonded over a shared love of board games and have since enjoyed many game nights together!

Because their book was already formatted as a polaroid book, we chose to use the space on the back of each page. We alternated quotes and drawings throughout the pages. We also made coloring sheets of their dog, Nova, that sat out at their wedding reception with crayons! You can see a few creative coloring jobs at the end of this post.

Sarah and Keenan are both very musically inclined, so filling the book with song lyrics was an easy task! Many were favorites from their dating years. While Sarah loves to sing jazz, Keenan plays both the guitar and the piano (his old college band got back together to play a few songs at their reception!). We were able to include his instruments in the book as well.

Sarah’s studies have taken her across the world multiple times. We included some of these travels with drawings of the Himalayas and the Eiffel Tower.

While Sarah and Keenan’s overflowing game closet is full of multi-player strategy games, they were especially fond of playing Root at the making of this book.

The first time Keenan asked Sarah out, he hid the question in a fortune cookie!

A paper mâché dino was one gift Sarah made for Keenan during their college years. Sadly, their dog got to it soon after their wedding, so it was extra special that it is commemorated in their guest book.

Another of their favorite memories together was of building and decorating a gingerbread house.

Sarah had a pretty good idea that Keenan would be proposing when they set off to walk Nova around Promontory Point. The neighborhood park has a picturesque view of downtown Chicago, and he had encouraged her to paint her nails the night before. So she wasn’t surprised when he pulled her off the path and started to get down on one knee. However, the ring wasn’t in his pocket! “It’s fine, we can go back home and come back!” she blurted out. But, Keenan turned to their dog and said, “Nova, where is the ring?” Nova ran to a nearby tree and proudly trotted back to her parents with the ring box in her mouth. Sarah got her surprise after all!

The last page of Sarah and Keenan’s Guest Book featured the lyrics to their first dance song, I’ve Been Loving You Too Long, by Otis Redding.

Color your own Nova!

Nova is such a special part of Sarah and Keenan’s lives. Although she couldn’t officially be a part of the ceremony, we were able to include her with some fun coloring sheets at the reception! Here are a few of the designs from the night:
